would install the file from the E: drive to D:\GHS1998\
2) If this does not work,
A) Run the QuickTime 16 bit version installer included on the CD-ROM. Simply go
to your CD-ROM drive, double click on the "QTINSTALL.EXE" file and follow the
instructions.
NOTE: EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE 32BIT VERSION OF QUICKTIME
INSTALLED, THE 16BIT INSTALLER MUST BE USED.
B) Run the Quark Immedia Viewer Installer : Go to your CD-ROM, open the
directory entitled "QUARKIMM", double click on the "INSTALL.EXE" icon. Follow
instructions for installation of Quark Immedia Viewer.
C) Go to your CD-ROM and double click on the "GHS1998.EXE" Icon to view the
yearbook.
Usage
The best way to browse the CD is by simply exploring it. Try clicking on different things to see what they do, and you will find most of the content of the CD. Following is a list of the main sections of the CD, how to access them, and what they contain.
The Menus:
File:
-Preferences- Contians controls for the background music and sound effects
-Page Setup/Print- Allows you to print what you see on the screen
-Quit- Quits.
Navigation:
-Pretty obvious, select a section and you will go there
Music Volume Selector:
-Changes the volume of the music, for sound effects volume go to the preferences(file menu).
The Navigation Bar:
-Click on the gold tab in the bottom left corner of any page to access the nav bar. After it slides out you can click on "back" to go to the previous page, "main" to go to the table of contents, or "quit" to quit. Clicking on either end of the bar will send it back to where it came from.
NOTE: If you click and hold the tabs on either side the bar could disappear, a strange bug we have encountered. To avoid this, click and release your mouse quickly.
The Content:
Intro Movie:
Plays on startup, click, type control-. , or type command-. to skip it.
Table of Contents:
Automatically displayed after the movie. This page contains a link to every main section of the CD.
Click on the top right picture to see it spin, or click on the buttons to travel around the CD.
History:
Go to the navigation menu or the button on the main page to access the history section. From this page you can access the archive of old pictures, the archive of old GHS mascots(demons), and the archivee of past yearbook covers. Simply click on whichever one you want to see. Once there, you can either select the items from a menu on the page or click the right arrow on the screen to go to the next page of demons or covers. to return from these internal sections to the main history page, simply click the "back" button on the nav bar.
Movies:
The movies section is accessible through the same methods as the history section. Once at this page, simply select a movie to view from the menu and click the small play button under the movie.
Trident:
The Trident section is accessed by the same means as the History and Movie sections. Once in the Trident section, select an issue of the Trident by clicking on the desired month. The issue will then be displayed in the form of a list of stories. Select the story which you wish to view by clicking on it. To return to the list of issues, simply click on the back arrow displayed on the page.
Tour:
The tour can also be accessed through the navigation menu or the main page. The tour itself can be navigated through two methods. The first method is a linear progression through all of the pictures. Simply clicking on the displayed picture will move you to the next one. The second method is to click on the bar on the left side of the screen. This will display a map of GHS with small red dots representing the pictures. Clicking on a dot will display that picture. The map is draggable, and can be closed by clicking on the close box on the right side of the map. To start the tour over, simply click on the text under the pictures.
Help:
Can be accessed only by clicking on the help button on the main page. This section contains a searchable form of this document as well as a cool sound effect.
Sponsors:
This page, accessible only from the main page, contains two advertisements from our sponsors.
Credits:
Accessible through the main page, this will also show up every time you quit the program. It shows a list of all contributing members as well as a list of the beta testers and the sponsor of the beta testing.
Problems?
Here is a list of all known problems and the solutions or lack thereof.
1) Movies/Sound run choppy and skip every once in a while
Solution:
Copy both of the large files on the CD to your hard drive and run them from there.
and/or
Change your display settings to 256 colors and 640X480 resolution
and/or
Once in the CD, go to file : preferences and set the background music to "none"
2) You get an error when trying to run the program that mentions "quicktime"
Solution:
Open up the CD and locate the QuickTime installer program. Run it, restart your computer, and try again.
3) You get an error when trying to run the program that mentions ".dll"
Solution:
Open up the CD and locate the QuarkImmedia Viewer installer program. Run it, restart your computer, and try again.
